“Abortion Barbie” Tish James and Democrats’ anti-life lawfare against pregnancy centers
New York's attorney general cheers for abortion and targets organizations that serve moms and save babies.
To celebrate Mother’s Day, many people send their mom a card or give her flowers. This Mother’s Day, Letitia James, the Democratic attorney general of New York, launched a lawsuit against organizations that serve moms and save babies.
LifeNews reported on Thursday:
Last week, NY AG Letitia James blitzed at least a dozen pregnancy help organizations—like our clients Heartbeat International, CompassCare, and other pregnancy centers—with a “Notice of Intention to Sue,” threatening ruinous prosecution that could shut down every pregnancy center in New York.
Her threat letter falsely accuses New York’s life-affirming pro-life ministries of “repeated and persistent misleading statements and omissions” about Abortion Pill Reversal.
James gave them a deadline of only five days to respond and threatened them with $5,000 in fines for every “violation” – any time they give scared moms a second chance to save their babies.
Heartbeat International is not taking the Democrats’ lawfare lying down. Represented by the redoubtable Thomas More Society (whose clients include jailed pro-life advocate Lauren Handy), they are suing to block the AG’s censorship and targeted discrimination. Says HI President Jor-El Godsey: “AG James is protecting Big Abortion in New York while denying…women the right to continue their own pregnancy.”
Science supports Abortion Pill Reversal
In a statement to media, James said, "Abortions cannot be reversed. Any treatments that claim to do so are made without scientific evidence and could be unsafe."
This abortion industry talking point is flat-out false.
Abortion Pill Reversal uses progesterone, a natural pregnancy hormone, to counteract the effects of the abortion drug mifepristone. A Charlotte Lozier Institute analysis notes:
Bioidentical progesterone has been used to support healthy pregnancies since the 1950s, receiving FDA approval in 1998. Today, progesterone treatment is commonly used to reduce the risk of premature birth and recurring miscarriage. In addition, progesterone supplementation is an expected part of the management of IVF pregnancies after embryo transfer and has an extensive safety record.
Abortion advocates sometimes point to a 2019 trial led by Mitchell Creinin – an abortionist and paid consultant for Danco, the manufacturer of mifepristone – to discredit APR. The legacy media acted as PR for Creinin et al. without questioning the findings too much.
But this pro-abortion “study” backfired and ended up proving APR works and it is mifepristone that is dangerous.
The trial ended early when three women suffered severe bleeding, a known complication of mifepristone. Two received a placebo and required emergency surgery; one needed a blood transfusion. The third woman received progesterone and did not require any additional intervention.
Moreover, 80% of the women who received progesterone remained pregnant and their babies had a heartbeat at the first follow-up visit, compared to only 40% who received the placebo.
Abortion Pill Reversal saves lives
Big Abortion claims that few women experience abortion regret. The evidence tells a different story.
In a peer-reviewed study, Lozier researchers surveyed women who contacted a national hotline for information on APR and completed a two-week treatment protocol. Each woman in the study sought APR within 72 hours after taking mifepristone. Almost 60% of them reached out in less than 12 hours. One woman did so almost immediately after leaving the abortion center:
As soon as I got in my car it was like I snapped back to reality and almost couldn’t believe what just happened. I started driving and before I even got to the highway, I pulled over and started feverishly searching through my phone for a magic UNDO button. And there it was: the APR program. I called them from the side of the road.
Abortion Pill Reversal is credited with saving thousands of lives – like Aubrey Lynn, daughter of Katelynn:
Abortion Barbie?
James is better known for litigation against former President Trump that resulted in a jaw-dropping $355 million penalty. But she has a vehement pro-abortion bias. In February, Politico relayed an anecdote of her extremism – literally cheerleading for abortion:
The article included this remarkable photo:
In Biden’s America, where’s the “choice”?
AG James’ lawfare is just the latest politically-driven attack on pregnancy resource centers and pro-life organizations, which have faced at least 90 physical attacks since the leak of the draft Dobbs decision. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and other Democrats have called for shutting down pregnancy centers. In 2023, pro-abortion Colorado lawmakers banned APR. California Attorney General Rob Bonta has also sued pregnancy centers for helping women save their babies with APR. And if the Biden-Harris administration has its way, pregnancy centers will be stripped of funding they’ve relied on for years.
This, despite overwhelming public support across party lines for pregnancy centers and their work, which in 2022 included providing more than a $350 million value in medical, material, and educational services free of charge.
It's all par for the course under an administration that throws peaceful pro-life advocates in prison and fails to bring violent pro-abortion extremists to justice.
Abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood have quit all pretense of being “pro-choice” and now openly call themselves pro-abortion. Democrats, too, used to say abortion should be “safe, legal and rare” but now promote abortion on demand as their one option for unplanned pregnancy. In Abortion Barbie Tish James’ dream world, women are not allowed the freedom to change their minds.
