State-Level Election Results Show Huge Wins for Life
As the results of Tuesday’s elections continue to roll in, one thing is clear: Life won in the states.
Top-Line Takeaways:
Pro-life governors re-elected: 12
Pro-life governors defeated: 0
Last night every governor who has protected life in the wake of Dobbs and who was up for re-election won. Put another way, not a single pro-life governor who signed pro-life protections into law or defended strong protections for life lost re-election.
Pro-Life Governor Re-Election Wins: Kay Ivey (Alabama); Ron DeSantis (Florida); Brian Kemp (Georgia); Brad Little (Idaho); Kim Reynolds (Iowa); Mike DeWine (Ohio); Kevin Stitt (Oklahoma); Henry McMaster (South Carolina); Kristi Noem (N. Dakota); Bill Lee (Tennessee); Greg Abbott (Texas); and Mark Gordon (Wyoming).
PLUS: Pro-life Sarah Huckabee Sanders (Arkansas) and Jim Pillen (Nebraska) won open gubernatorial races, and Kari Lake (Arizona) is potentially the governor-elect there.
Other Pro-Life Election Highlights from the States :
Pro-Life Attorneys General Win! The abortion industry playbook is to sue in every state and use the court system to override the will of the people in pro-life states. This is why it’s so important we have strong pro-life attorneys general in place in pro-life states.
Last night saw a number of big wins for pro-life AGs including:
Chris Carr who is defending the Georgia Heartbeat law
Ken Paxton who is fighting the Biden Admin attempts to limit state pro- life laws
Dave Yost who is defending the Ohio Heartbeat law
Steve Marshall in Alabama
Tim Griffin in Arkansas
Ashley Moody in Florida
We also saw a pro-life AG candidate defeat a pro-abortion AG incumbent with the win of Brenna Bird in Iowa.
Additional Pro-life Victories to Celebrate in the States:
Florida: Not only did Florida make news last night with the overwhelming victories of Governor Ron DeSantis and Senator Marco Rubio, but Florida is on track to add nine new pro-life voices to its state legislature.
Ohio: While the state fights pro-abortion lawsuits against its Heartbeat Law, Ohioans sent Gov. DeWine back to Columbus by a resounding margin, and swept for life all three races for their Supreme Court.
North Carolina: With an extreme pro-abortion governor and attorney general, North Carolina elected a pro-life supermajority to their state senate and increased the number of state pro-life house members. This gives them a real path forward to protect life and override vetoes from pro-abortion Governor Cooper.
North Carolina also flipped their state supreme court to pro-life by electing pro-life judges to both seats at play on the supreme court.
Nebraska: After coming up one vote short of passing strong pro-life protections last session, wins last night mean final tallies are expected to show they have now elected a filibuster-proof pro-life majority to go with their pro-life Governor-elect Pillen, giving Nebraska a path forward to protecting life.
Kentucky: Kentucky returned their strong pro-life majority to the legislature and may even pick up additional pro-life seats when all the votes are counted.
Indiana: After passing a law to end 95% of abortions in the state, Indiana returned strong pro-life majorities to their state legislature.
