Two Weeks From Election Day: Abortion Extremism Haunting Democrats
DeSantis Slams Crist for Backing Brutal Late-Term Abortions: “That’s Wrong.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is no shrinking violet. His handling of the abortion issue in Monday’s gubernatorial debate was a textbook illustration of what RealClearPolitics’ Susan Crabtree wrote about yesterday, in an article titled “Republicans Find Their Footing on Abortion.”
DeSantis began with the story of Judge Renatha Francis, the first Jamaican-born immigrant to serve on the Florida Supreme Court (who had her newborn son in tow when DeSantis announced her appointment). He went on to slam Charlie Crist’s support for late-term abortion when unborn children can feel pain, and more:
Crist, an ex-Republican, has variously described himself as pro-life and pro-choice during his political career. DeSantis nailed him for flip-flopping and now refusing to support medical care for abortion survivors:
Regardless of the question asked, Crist’s answer was abortion. From the very beginning, he managed to turn the topic of housing to abortion instead, and he brought up abortion at least eight times during the hour-long debate.
Crist is another sad example of the extremism of today’s Democratic candidates who are pinning their midterm hopes on pro-abortion rage. Meanwhile in the pro-life win column, Florida’s 15-week late-term abortion limit, signed by DeSantis, is expected to save as many as 3,800 lives a year.
Shout It From the Rooftops: Graham’s Bill Helps Republicans
Erick Erickson knows the score. Sen. Lindsey Graham flipped the narrative by introducing legislation to limit painful late-term abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions:
Pro-Abortion Democrats Bring In the Big Guns (Again), Hoping for Different Results
Former President Barack Obama has cut a series of ads for Democrats in battleground-state races, with abortion as a focal issue. Again, that’s on top of more than $343 million in spending since January on ads that reference abortion – dwarfing issues like health care.
We’ve seen this movie before. Obama couldn’t save pro-abortion extremist Terry McAuliffe from losing to Glenn Youngkin in Virginia’s gubernatorial race last year. President Biden is less popular today than he was in November 2021, and no more eloquent or persuasive in making the case for extreme abortion policies:
Pro-Life Democrat Predicted Abortion Extremism Would Haunt His Party
A year ago, after nearly every House Democrat voted for the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, former Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski of Illinois wrote:
In 2022 House Democrats may look back and rue the day they went on record supporting an abortion bill so far out of the American mainstream. HR 3755 could be a turning point in the politics of abortion, but maybe not the one that the abortion lobby wanted.
Worth noting: Pro-abortion Rep. Marie Newman, who narrowly ousted Lipinski in 2020, won’t be returning next year after redistricting pitted her against another Democrat.
We’ve previously written about how even some Democrats who are hardly pro-life, like James Carville and Bernie Sanders, are getting nervous about pushing unlimited abortion at the expense of a message with broader appeal. Sanders reiterated his concerns Sunday on CNN. Is anyone else on Team Blue listening?
Walker Ascendant After Strong Debate Performance
Two weeks ago, prior to the Georgia U.S. Senate debate, Trafalgar showed Sen. Raphael “God is pro-choice” Warnock with a slight lead. Herschel Walker has overtaken him in the group’s latest poll, after reminding the debate audience that every abortion decision involves a baby. Pro-life Republicans should keep drawing contrast.
