Discover more from America After Dobbs
Yet another poll shows Americans reject Dems' no-limits abortion stance.
Cutting through the spin
AP-NORC released its latest poll of Americans’ views on abortion today. It adds to years’ worth of polling data that shows a national consensus for protecting life:
73% of Americans think there should be at least some limits on abortion.
o Among the minority who said abortion should be allowed for any reason, there was a large partisan skew of nearly 80% of Democrats versus less than 30% of Republicans.
45% of Americans say abortion should not be allowed 15 weeks into pregnancy (a point when science shows unborn children can feel pain, which was not mentioned).
68% say abortion should not be allowed 24 weeks into pregnancy.
58% of Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of abortion policy.
The poll did not ask what protections for babies in the womb, if any, Americans would like Congress to pass.
The AP went out of their way to spin the poll results as favorably as possible toward abortion advocates. However, numerous polls including past years’ AP-NORC polls show most Americans consistently oppose the Democratic Party position of no limits at any point in pregnancy.
And while news stories regularly highlight women allegedly “forced” by pro-life laws to travel out of state for abortions since Dobbs, only 7% of Americans say this applies to someone they know.
In an op-ed published yesterday at The Hill, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser called out media misinformation that obscures both the real consensus among Americans and the Democratic Party’s extreme stance on this issue:
Americans are far more knowledgeable about prenatal development today than they were in 1973, when Roe was decided. Recent generations have grown up observing babies in pregnancy through 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasound images. More and more Americans know someone who underwent surgery in utero, which routinely requires anesthesia, not only for the mother but also specifically for the child patient.
What is true is that Democrats know their position of taxpayer-funded elective abortion through all nine months of pregnancy is not only inhumane, but also polls only up to 20 percent on a good day — and generally far lower than that. The media’s avoidance of this fact is an example of bias, a gift to the Democrats.
